LevelUp SEL!

Transformation and Leadership Program

LevelUp SEL provides skill building experiences for young leaders who serve as mentors in public and private elementary schools, by providing supervision, training and work experience for young college and graduate school students in the fields of education and mental health.  This program helps students deepen their SEL competencies and offers young practitioners an opportunity to strengthen leadership skills as they grow into professionals in their respective fields.

Simultaneously, the LevelUp SEL team guides elementary school age children using real-time interactions to build skills such as empathy, coping, self-awareness, relationship skills, and communication. Young students interact with college interns and have the opportunity to practice and generalize skills in small groups of peers with real-time, authentic experiences.

Social emotional skills are life-long attributes that engender sustenance and peace among individuals, communities, cultures, races, and religions in our society. More than ever, our work in Social-Emotional Learning through LevelUp SEL is a valuable resource to nurture youth toward personal achievement and collaboration.

Through the help of grants, the LevelUp SEL program can compensate interns and provide them with both a comprehensive SEL curriculum and highly unique, hands-on work experience. Some students also receive college credit for their participation. We are energized about this model because it enhances our ability to move SEL into communities on an efficient and larger scale.

TMALS

Each week The Meeting House team works with students at Thurgood Marshall Academy Lower School.
Through the support of professionals and pre-professional interns we help children to engage in fun SEL activities that serve as therapeutic interventions which build leadership and resiliency skills necessary to establish and maintain productive relationships. This LevelUp SEL program provides students in grades K-5 with social and emotional support that helps them to feel connected and included. It also provides an opportunity for them to practice conversation and pragmatic language skills including verbal and non verbal communication.
